Dan Lancelot ~ Steel Pan, Percussion, Drums, Keyboards and Guitar
Fuse the characteristic sounds and rhythms of the Caribbean with the simplicity and purity of early rock and modern pop and you find the blueprint for the instrumental compositions of Dan "Dano" Lancelot. Embracing unique and distinctive instrumentation and employing an exhilarating combination of pop, reggae, rock, and steel drum arrangements, Dan produces atmospheres to delight and electrify.
Following a successful career as an alternative rock drummer, co-writer and founding member for RCA/Kneeling Elephant Records artist Gloritone, and touring drummer for Skunk recording artist Slightly Stoopid, Dan switched gears. Energized and motivated after traveling the Caribbean, Dan launched Dano's Island Sounds. Highlighting the steel pan and incorporating a crowd pleasing blend of original compositions, traditional Caribbean melodies, and pop cover songs Dano's Island Sounds entertains audiences of all ages throughout Southern California. Dano's Island Sounds released instrumental CD's "Pan in Paradise" in 2003 and "One Drop Pop" in 2007 to rave reviews.
Versatile and imaginative, Dan creates hooky melodies with driving rhythm. As producer, engineer and composer Dan brings together years of performance experience and collaborative writing skills with musical knowledge, instinct and passion. Dan is heavily influenced by The Police, The Beatles, Bob Marley, Henry Mancini, John Barry, Adam Schlessinger and a long list of Brit Pop, contemporary rock and reggae/world artists. Dan Lancelot was born in Oyster Bay New York November 11, 1965. Influenced by his father, Dano’s first love for music came from the sounds of the 5th Dimension, Temptations, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Neil Diamond, The Carpenters, Tom Jones, & The Beatles. During his early years in New York Dan reminisces, “Being around Dad, who would dance through the house singing melodies from the Rat Pack repertoire definitely had an impact on me musically.” At the age of nine Dan's family moved from Massapequa, NY to Phoenix, AZ. Dano took naturally to rhythm and melody at a young age. He began drum lessons when he was twelve and started teaching himself to play guitar and piano when he was fourteen. During the 70’s Dan was influenced by Rock & Pop artists; Eagles, Billy Joel, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Queen, The Who, Rush, Steely Dan, & The Doobie Brothers.
The Punk and New Wave era of the late 70's and 80’s heavily influenced Dan. The Police, The Cars, The Pretenders, The Clash, The Ramones, B-52’s, Stray Cats, Blonde & Duran Duran were the driving force for Dan to become a performing musician. Dan began performing on drum-set in bands at the age of sixteen and his professional nightclub career was off to a start at the age of eighteen. Throughout his musical career Dan has provided the back beat in numerous rock influenced bands, jazz ensembles, big bands and cover bands.
Additionally, Dano enjoys and is inspired by Sting, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, U2, Sublime, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Maroon 5, Tears for Fears, The Tubes, Missing Persons, Weezer, Coldplay, Oasis, Black Eyed Peas, James Brown, Green Day, Rod Stewart, AC/DC, Slightly Stoopid, 311 & INXS.
